The Sini-Gang are pinoys depicting a slice of Filipino-American life in Virginia Beach, VA via a weekly, light-hearted Podcast. We discuss anything and everything, and we call 'em as we see 'em through our Filipino-American eyes. Don't take us too seriously though, we don't.

A change of pace with this episode.  With our special guest Synergy (or Sinner-G) we delve into a topic many of us are unfamiliar with, Natural Family Planning.

Subjects such as chastity within marriage, sexual promiscuity, and female ovulation cycles are some of the subjects mentioned here, at times explicitly.  If some of this makes you feel uncomfortable or uneasy, feel free to pass on this episode, you won't hurt our feelings (much).

For everyone else,  please listen with an open mind as we are sure you may have your own opinions, possibly differing, as everyone in this episode had their own individual opinions.

And please remember, we are not experts on any of this stuff (some of us know nothing about it) so if you are interested in finding about more, here are a couple of links to help get you started:

also, please excuse the number of people we had speak on this episode.  It seems everyone wanted to get a word in about this.  For those unfamiliar with the cast of characters here is a list of those who participated in this episode:

special guest: Synergy (or Sinner-G)

Cfusion,
I\'m thinking about it right now. It\'s in the planning stage. If I moved backed to Va. Beach, I would love to collaborate with the Sini-gang. However, they have good chemistry together. That is something I don\'t want to disrupt. I actually went to the same college as all of them. I was just a little older then the oldest member. El-Boogy (E.P.) Sterno (N.L.) Pinoy Playboy (G.R.) and Gamma Ray (M.J.) are people I know. Aloha Al, I still can\'t place the voice, however I think I know her.

I’m glad they started this podcast and represent the Va. Beach area well. They are the leading edge of technology. I wish I could find similar friend that would spend the time to contribute to a podcasting. I knew this would be big when it was bleeding edge technology. But, as El-boogy and Sterno could contest that having the public buy in on an idea is difficult. However, with “PINOY POWER? I am glad they stuck with the idea and ran with it.

Their perseverance has given me a new motivation to start one on my own. However, let me get my creative juices swirling and plan a podcast with good content and information for everyone to enjoy.

Ok…I love the Sini-gang and their discussion on any subject through their eyes. However, I have to chime in on this week’s discussion.

Birth Control and the Catholic Church…..

If Sinner-G is a Protestant, then I applaud her input this week’s subject matter. However, knowing that most Filipinos are Catholic and I believe I know who Sinner-G is, because I lived in Va. Beach for a long time and know her voice, I believe she is pretty hypocritical.

I very surprised that Serno did not chime in, having graduated from a Catholic School. He should have known that any form of contraception is viewed as wrong by the Catholic Church. This was taught in Catholic High during the sexual education classes. (I know I went N. Catholic High too.)

What irks me is when Sinner-G discusses about contraception (natural and artificial) and how she believes her way is accepted by Catholic Church. Let me first give you the Catholic Church’s views on contraception:

“In 1968, Pope Paul VI issued his landmark encyclical letter Humanae Vitae (Latin, \\\"Human Life\\\"), which reemphasized the Church’s constant teaching that it is always intrinsically wrong to use contraception to prevent new human beings from coming into existence.?

So what is the Catholic Church’s definition of contraception?
Contraception is \\\"any action which, either in anticipation of the conjugal act [sexual intercourse], or in its accomplishment, or in the development of its natural consequences, proposes, whether as an end or as a means, to render procreation impossible\\\" (Humanae Vitae 14). This includes sterilization, condoms and other barrier methods, spermicides, coitus interruptus (withdrawal method), the Pill, and all other such methods.

Their view on natural contraception (temperature or cycle method, withdrawal method, or any other natural form):
Contraception is wrong because it’s a deliberate violation of the design God built into the human race, often referred to as \\\"natural law.\\\" The natural law purpose of sex is procreation. The pleasure that sexual intercourse provides is an additional blessing from God, intended to offer the possibility of new life while strengthening the bond of intimacy, respect, and love between husband and wife. The loving environment this bond creates is the perfect setting for nurturing children.

But sexual pleasure within marriage becomes unnatural, and even harmful to the spouses, when it is used in a way that deliberately excludes the basic purpose of sex, which is procreation. God’s gift of the sex act, along with its pleasure and intimacy, must not be abused by deliberately frustrating its natural end—procreation.

The only form that is accepted by the Catholic Church is to abstain from sexual intercourse.

However, if you exclude any acceptance of birth control with the exception of abstinence by the Catholic Church then I would think Sinner-G would be more believable.

My personal views are that I do believe in birth control and I am Catholic. However, I disagree with the Catholic Church’s view on birth control. I have 2 kids of my own. I love my wife but, when we consummate our marriage. I want to decide weather or not we should have a child. As a married couple, we have the power to procreate and give birth to a child. As parents we are obligated to raise our children and support them every way. Having said that the Catholic Church may preach on their opposition on birth control, however they don’t provide any support to our children. The only thing they provide is guidance on how our children should believe God, how to practice his teaching from a “Catholic? stand point.

Hmmm….Sinner-G must not have paid attention in her pre-marriage classes if she was married in a Catholic Church. They did talk about the Catholic views on birth control.

Thank God that I was never in Catholic school! What kind of brainwashing are they implementing with their forms of birth control and saying that sex is mainly a reason to procreate? \\\"Sexual pleasure within marriage becomes unnatural\\\" when it gets in the way of procreation??? I\\\'ll take a good orgasm any day and take a pass on the child if I\\\'m not looking for one.

Synergy, I just hope your method works when you decide not to have a baby and a child springs forth anyway.

Honestly I enjoyed this little 50-minute-or-so ad for NFP, but talking about it for a full episode was tedious. A BIG THANK YOU to Gamma and El Boogie for making it less serious and more entertaining!

And Jolly-B, no need to pass judgment on Synergy\\\'s past life. We all have done things we aren\\\'t proud of. I don\\\'t agree with her stance on NFP AT ALL, but she has a right to talk about it.

And yes, I do believe in God. I just don\\\'t believe in the Catholic Church or any organized religion.

Jolly-B, have you thought of doing your own podcast? I\\\'d say, you\\\'ve got one subscriber - me. Or, maybe the sini-gang can have you as a guest. Then, maybe a regular so we can have a balanced group - two on the left and two on the right, on the right side of sterno.

as always, good ep, guys!
